Application Procedure
Applicants apply directly to the host institutions. The links to the specific pages describing the detailed procedures at each host are given in the table above. 

Eligibility Requirements
Each research must simultaneously fulfil the following criteria at the time of his/her recruitment by the host institution:

(a) Nationality

 They are nationals of a Member State of the European Community, of an Associated Country or of any other Third Country.

(b) Mobility rule

The researcher must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies etc.) in the country in his/her host organization for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her recruitment (Short stays, such as holidays are not taken into account).
Exceptions: International Organisations
For international European interest organisations or international organisations located in any of the Member States or Associated countries the mobility rule does not apply to the hosting country of eligible researchers. However to be eligible the appointed researcher must not have spent more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the date of selection in the same appointing international organisation.

(c) Qualifications and Research Experience

Early Stage Researcher (ESR): means a researcher who, at the time of his/her recruitment, has not yet been awarded the doctorate degree and is in the first 4 years (full time equivalent) of his/her research career.
Experienced Researcher (ER): means a researcher who, at the time of his/her recruitment, is: 1)in possession of a doctoral degree, independently of the time taken to acquire it, or has at least 4 years of full-time research experience, and 2) has less than five years of full-time equivalent research experience.

What Expenses are Covered?

  • Living Allowance: fixed amount to be paid to the researchers in monthly instalments. As a general rule researchers shall be appointed under an employment contract.
  • Mobility Allowance: fixed amount to cover expenses of the researcher related to his/her mobility (e.g. relocation) depending on family status at date of recruitment.
